Merry Christmas???

Why is it that at every Christmas and New Year time, for the last few years there has been some kind of disaster, for example the tsunami or this years riots in a hospital fire or just some poor person getting shot. Lets just hope that not such bad things happen next year but thats maybe wishful thinking.
